I leave!

Dear reader,

There is quite some time between our last newsletter and this one. That was not without reason. In the last newsletter I already told you that we had taken a big step and bought a second house in Malaga. A cute house in El Palo (old fishing district east of the center of Malaga) from 1948 that needed a thorough renovation. And well... that all took a bit longer than we had planned and hoped.

The original plan was that it would be ready for rental from the summer. Unfortunately, the project contractor turned a blind eye to it. I won't bore you reader with what went wrong, but... I leave there was nothing there. Ultimately, we took matters into our own hands and were able to repair or finish the job with many vacation days taken, and Steven with a number of months of unpaid leave from his employer, and with the help of a number of construction workers and painters from El Palo. And not least because of many (local) friends who came to help us.

The entire house has been thoroughly renovated. The layout has been changed, the construction has been strengthened, new water pipes, electricity, drainage, new walls, etc. Below you can see some Before - During - After photos. First of all, the living room (which used to be a bedroom). Want to see more photos? Click here.

The term 'with blood, sweat and tears' really did apply. We are very proud and happy with the final result, but to be honest it has not always been easy. You have to deal with the fact that you are dependent on others, especially if you spend most of the time in the Netherlands. Add to that the language and sometimes the Spanish mentality mañana mañana, and then things can sometimes go wrong. Really, reader, there were really moments when I thought: "If only we had never done this!".

But..... that's all behind us, so we are proud to announce that the El Palo beach house can be booked from today.

Below you can see the Before - During - After photos of the bedroom on the ground floor (where the old living room was). Want to see more photos? click here.

Last minute

We did the tradition of I leave credit, because even though we had planned everything so well, it literally came down to the last hours. Really, 10 minutes before the first guests* were to arrive, they were still mopping :-). When I watch an episode of I leave Look, when they hang everything up and clean it at the last minute, I always wonder how that is possible. Well..... now I know, haha.

*These brave guys, E & T, booked a 2-month stay with us to work remotely. They decided to book based on just one photo of the outside and our design drawings. You have to dare to do that, but they did it. Great to hear that they are having a great time and are enjoying this nice house and the nice weather in Malaga!

It is not without reason that they chose our house for working from home. We have two separate workplaces; one in the living room (separate desk and chair) and an office room on the ground floor with a large table. So you can both attend a zoom or team meeting undisturbed. There is super-fast fiber internet, >600MB with good coverage on all floors.

Below you can see the Before - During - After photos of one of the two terraces. Want to see more photos? click here.

sea View

Although originally planned for next year, we have already been able to realize the roof terrace. So we have a terrace on the second floor, but also a roof terrace on the third floor. And from this terrace you have a view of the sea (the beach is only a 2-minute walk from our house) and further on you can see the skyline of the center of Malaga. Here you can see the sun rise in the morning and watch the sun disappear behind the mountains in the evening. So reader, what are you waiting for?

Great that you are reading our newsletter reader. We would like more people to get to know Malaga. Do you know someone who also enjoys reading nice information about Malaga every now and then or who would like to visit Malaga sometime? Then forward this newsletter. Thank you!
