The most beautiful views

Dear reader,

In the previous newsletter I promised you that I would tell you more about the Gibralfaro, a 130 meter high hill on the outskirts of Malaga. This hill is an offshoot of the Montes de Málaga, the mountains of Malaga. On top of this hill you will find one of the paradores that Spain has. A parador has traditionally been a state hotel, sometimes built specifically as tourist accommodation, but often in this way Spanish heritage was also honored. The parador the Malaga Gibralfaro is one with a unique view over Malaga. We recently ate in the restaurant of this hotel with friends in honor of a birthday. The parador has a traditional menu, with real classics from the region. A visit to this one parador is really worth it, because look at the view we had during lunch!

Even if you don't like extensive dining, it is worth going upstairs. Below the restaurant there is a lovely terrace where you can have a drink and enjoy the view.
And while you're there, pay a visit Castillo Gibralfaro. You can get the best view of Malaga from Gibralfaro by walking up the castle walls via the steps. The Montes de Malaga also become even more visible. Inside Gibralfaro Castle you will also find a small museum where you can view clothing, weapons and utensils from the time when the castle was still used for defense. The oldest objects come from the 15th century.

There are different ways to get up; walking from the Alcazaba (a steep climb of 20 minutes), by bus 35 from Plaza de Alameda (15 minutes) or by taxi. Or make a combination of these options, taxi there, walking back :-).

Roof terrace + view + cocktail

You don't necessarily have to go up the mountain to have a nice view. The roof terrace of the AC Marriot Hotel Malaga Palacio also offers fantastic views views! For us it is a regular practice to take the elevator to the 15th floor around sunset and order a delicious cocktail. In addition to seeing the marina (Muelle Uno) and the working harbour, you can also look onto the roof of La Manquita, the cathedral and the Alcazaba, the Moorish palace (a must visit by the way). If you want to go upstairs as a non-guest, you will be charged an entrance fee of €8 euros during the weekend, but you will receive a cocktail for that once you reach the top ;-). Well worth it!

The AC Marriot is not the only roof terrace in Malaga. There are quite a few and in the next newsletter I would like to take you to the best roof terraces in Malaga!
