Lunch on the beach in December
Dear reader,

Our last newsletter was from a while ago and for good reason! I'll tell you all about it later in this newsletter! But first more about a rather current topic:

Temporarily working 'from home' in Malaga

Now that we have had to work from home as much as possible for almost 2 years, the opportunity to do this abroad is closer than ever. Have you ever considered Want to put your laptop down in a sunny country for a short or longer period of time?

Malaga is ideal for this. More and more people come to the sun for a few weeks to work. All you need is good WiFi, a table and chair and your laptop. Enjoy the sun and warmth during your lunch. After work, head into the bustling city for a tapa and a drink (restaurants, cafes, museums, theaters and cinemas are open as usual in Malaga). And at the weekend you go to the beach, walk in the Montes de Malaga or opt for a day trip in the Malaga area (see my previous newsletter for super fun destinations).

I am going to Malaga for a few weeks in March to work from there. I'm already really looking forward to the blue skies, the warmth and the sun. The WiFi in the apartment is super fast and the table where you place your laptop overlooks our terrace. Do you also see yourself sitting there?

!!! News!!!

But what's the big news, you ask?! What's so exciting?

Well, here it goes: in recent months we have investigated whether it is feasible to buy another house in Malaga.

And it worked!

In mid-January we signed the purchase contract for a cute house in the fishing district of El Palo in Malaga with the Spanish notary. This house dates from 1948 and is located in a coastal neighborhood with almost only low-rise houses. Our new house is located in a quiet pedestrian street with cozy planters and flower pots. In the last century, mainly fishermen lived in El Palo. Now it is a charming combination of original residents, their children, grandchildren and here and there a foreigner like us ;-).

Would you like to know more about this fascinating neighborhood? Then check this one link.

I hear you thinking: "When can I rent this nice house?". You'll have to wait a little longer for that. It is really a nice house, but it does need a renovation. We have great plans that are currently with our contractor. He will check whether what we want is really possible. But as soon as the green light is given, the demolition hammer starts! Ultimately there will be two bedrooms and two bathrooms, a lovely living room with open kitchen, a roof terrace with lounge sofa and dining area. There will also be an extra room on the roof terrace with a kitchenette and a workplace. On top of this terrace room we want to create an extra roof terrace with a sea view. Because this house is a 3-minute walk from El Palo beach! Do you see yourself going? In your slippers, sunglasses on your face and a towel under your arm, you walk less than 300 meters and 'thud!', you are on the beach 🤩.

We are very excited and can't wait to welcome you to this new home. But, as mentioned, first a major renovation. We hope that the first guests can move in in July.

This is it then! Cute, right?
We think the purchase of another dream spot is worth celebrating. And we'd love to celebrate that with you! So if you have been thinking about booking with us for some time, now is the time.

Use the discount code HouseElPalo and benefit from a 10% discount if you make the booking before March 1, 2022. The discount is valid on bookings with a stay in 2022.

NB! You can currently only book for the apartment in the center.

The signing took place at a notary in the center. In the second photo you see us with the keys for the Teatro Romano and the Alcazaba. If you look closely, you will see that it is a key ring with an image of the Virgin Virgen del Carmen. She is seen as the patron saint of sailors and fishermen. How appropriate for El Palo!

The following photos are from the beach at El Palo, taken in mid-January. The beach consists of small bays where the sea is nice and calm and the beach is clear. There are local restaurants everywhere along the boulevard (marisquerías) or beach tents (chiringuitos) to find where they sell the fish caught the same morning. The fish is roasted over burning olive wood, usually in rotating boats on the beach so that they can move with the wind. In this article you can read more about it!

This is our house! Three floors, the top part being a terrace and part a room. Do you see that palm tree behind the terrace? There is the sea!
