Malaga
Malaga has it all! It is a surprising city with many faces. A beautiful car-free historic center with lovely buildings, wide avenues, narrow streets, and many nice shops. Tasty bars and restaurants can be found everywhere. It is the birthplace of Pablo Picasso and has many museums and attractions. The Moorish fortress Alcazaba, Roman theater, Gibralfaro Castle, Mercado Atarazanas, and the cathedral La Manquita are well worth a visit. There is a beautiful modern marina and, of course, wonderful beaches! To the east of the center are the two fishing districts of Pedregalejo and El Palo (where our beach house is), which are situated right on the beach. Quiet coves with a lively boulevard featuring delicious restaurants where they grill fresh fish right in front of you on the sand. But there is also so much beauty to see in the immediate vicinity of Malaga! Below you will find all our tips for sights in the city, places to eat and drink, museums, beaches, and, of course, day trips from Malaga.

Locations of the houses
Below you will find more information about the neighborhoods where our houses are located.
El Molinillo
The two apartments are located in the El Molinillo neighborhood, in the center of Malaga. Unlike the historic center, this neighborhood is still primarily inhabited by Malagueños (Spanish residents of Malaga). The apartments are just a 6-7 minute walk from the pedestrianized historic center. It's a neighborhood where many locals live, with a bakery, several supermarkets, a butcher shop, and greengrocers near the apartments. Nearby, you'll find the Mercado de Salamanca covered market. This Neo-Múdejar-style market opened in 1925 and has recently been beautifully renovated. The market is still in operation, where residents of this neighborhood buy their daily fresh produce, such as vegetables, meat, and fish. You'll also find coffee and tapas bars.
El Palo
The beach house is located in the El Palo district, east of the center. This district has traditionally been an old fishing district. It largely consists of low-rise houses on car-free streets that are full of planters. Our house is also located on a car-free street and only 200 meters from the beach. That's less than a 2-minute walk! There are many restaurants on the boulevard near the beach for lunch, dinner or drinks. There are all kinds of shops, bars and restaurants in the immediate vicinity. Various supermarkets, bakers, butchers and greengrocers. There is a covered market with all kinds of fresh products about an 8-minute walk away. In the area surrounding this market there are numerous shops where you can find everything you need. Do you want to go to the historic center of Malaga? You can get there by bike in 20 minutes and there are also buses that run back and forth every 10 minutes, even at night. There is a bus card in the house in El Palo that you can use!
Malaga area
Malaga is, of course, an excellent place to stay during a city break. But it's also a wonderful place for longer holidays! Rent a car (we have a free private parking space underneath Appartement Alderete) and head out to explore the enchanting Andalusia further. Malaga is very centrally located in Andalusia, making it an excellent base. Some suggestions for day trips or half-day trips by car include:
Mijas Pueblo, white village: 33 min.
Antequera, medieval village: 43 min. Can be easily combined with a walk in El Torcal.
Frigiliana, whitewashed village: 46 min.
Nerja, beautiful town and beautiful beach: 53 minutes (can easily be combined with a visit to Frigiliana. Then also include the caves of Nerja).
Caminito del Rey, beautiful walk: 56 min.
Ronda, a spectacular city built on rocks: 1 hour and 25 minutes.
Setenil de las Bodegas, village built into the rocks: 1 hour and 17 minutes (can easily be combined with a visit to Ronda).
Granada, jewel of a city: 1 hour and 26 minutes.
Sierra Nevada – Lanjaron, beautiful area for walks: 1 hour and 23 minutes.
Torcal de Antequera, for a nice walk in a nature reserve: 54 min.
Cordoba, with its famous Mezquita and flower patios: 1 hour and 45 minutes.
Seville, beautiful city: 2 hours and 10 minutes.
Old Marbella / Puerto Banus, beautiful old center and luxury marina: 50 min.
This is just a selection of options. There is so much to see that you can safely opt for a longer stay to visit all these beautiful places. If you choose to stay with us, you won't have to drag suitcases from your B&B to your hotel. After a day of exploring the area, you will come 'home' to La Tierra Sur.
